About our School
At Oakridge CP School, we place the utmost importance on mental health. We recognise that without good mental health, children will not be able to reach for the stars. We are committed to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of pupils, parents, carers, staff and other stakeholders.
Our named Senior Mental Health Lead is Mr Russell.
Here is a link to our latest Mental Health and Wellbeing Policy.
As part of our PSHE curriculum, we follow the NHS backed My Happymind programme.
This highly visual and child friendly approach is grounded in psychology and neuroscience. It develops children's understanding of mental health, how the brain works and how they can nurture their own mental health and wellbeing. Children record their learning in their journals and try to put the ideas they are taught into practice through the week.
From January 2025, Oakridge will have a school dog. Whisper - a trained Pets as Therapy dog - will be used for respite, reward and reading confidence work.
If you would like to find out more, please read our School Dog Policy or speak to someone in school.
The Go-To website signposts mental health support for children, families and professionals in North Yorkshire.
