For Parents and Carers

School uniform

Our uniform policy was changed in June 2023 to reflect the findings of a Poverty Proofing Audit carried out by Children North East in April 2023. The views of parents, children and staff were also sought before finalising this policy.

The aims of our uniform are to emphasise being a part of the Oakridge school team, to look smart but to also feel comfortable and ready to learn within our active learning environments.

In recognition of the financial challenges facing many families, we have made efforts to provide options within our uniform so that parents can choose not to purchase a separate PE kit.

The school will hold a swap-shop on a yearly basis. We also stock spare uniform/shoes that we will lend out when needed. All pupils receive a free school jumper when parents complete a free-school meals application.

Please speak confidentially to school if you are struggling to afford uniform.

Oakridge Primary (10)

Our Uniform:

· Red or white polo shirt

· A plain red sweatshirt, hooded jumper knitted jumper or cardigan

· Plain black or grey trousers, shorts or jogging bottoms.

· A plain grey pinafore dress, a red gingham dress or plain black leggings.

· A pair of flat, safe black shoes or a pair of plain, completely black trainers.

In order to maintain a smart, uniform appearance, all uniform should be unbranded and plain.

The exception to this is for trainers as we recognise that finding unbranded quality trainers can be difficult. However, please ensure trainers are completely black.

Sport at Oakridge

Outdoor learning:

Children make frequent use of the outdoor areas in and around the school grounds and so should have appropriate outerwear (e.g. coat, hat, gloves) depending on the weather. You may wish to send in a pair of wellies for your child but this is not a necessity as school have lots of spare pairs.

Jewellery:

  • It is encouraged that pupils do not wear jewellery to school, especially as individuals become very upset if a treasured piece of jewellery goes missing.
  • Should a pupil have pierced ears, plain studs should only be worn and in order t o comply with health and safety regulations, earrings must be removed during all PE activities.

Please note that the school will be unable to take any responsibility for any jewellery that is lost.

Watches:

  • Watches may be worn to school.

Please note that the school will be unable to take any responsibility for any watches that are lost.

Make Up

  • Neither make-up nor nail varnish should be worn.
